About me
I am a qualified psychotherapist with many years' experience of working with a diverse group of clients. In addition to private practice, I have worked in a number of institutional settings, including university counselling services, refugee support centres and men's prisons. I am accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have completed postgraduate training in Integrative Psychotherapy at the University of Manchester. I have also completed Diplomas in Corporate and Executive Coaching and in Personal Coaching with The Coaching Academy, which is the UK's largest and best recognised coaching institution. I provide online psychotherapy and coaching to clients across Europe and can offer face to face sessions in Manchester and Oslo, depending upon availability.
A training in Integrative Psychotherapy means that I have experience and competence in a wide-range of cognitive and psychodynamic therapeutic approaches. As a result, I am able to tailor my approach individually to the needs of different clients. The main basis of my therapeutic practice is humanistic/person-centred therapy. This approach is built around providing a context where clients can explore feelings and emotions that may be hard for them to express in other contexts. When people are allowed to express such 'unacceptable' or 'forbidden' feelings, our experience is that they themselves begin to come up with solutions to problems and find ways to express their whole personality more completely. In my practice, I seek to provide a space where we can explore the underlying causes of why you might feel stuck in life or frustrated with current situations. This approach can help you begin to realise your own feelings and potential more fully.
In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I am an anthropologist. As an anthropologist, I am particularly aware of the emotional concerns that can be brought up around issues of relocation and cultural difference. I am happy to work with clients with a particular interest in exploring these concerns. As part of my academic research, I have presented at a wide variety of academic venues, published research papers on the role of culture in psychotherapy, and work as an instructor in Advanced Psychoanalytic Technique with trainee therapists in China.
